Money’s not the problem. It’s the love of money that’s evil.

“For the love of money is the root of all evil”  [1Timothy 6:10]

The film MARGIN CALL is just the tip of the iceberg. Here’s a link to the trailer, so you can catch up:

MARGIN CALL is fiction. But the truth is even more bizarre and disturbing than fiction. Here in an interview on the BBC,  a trader candidly admits, “our job is not to fix the economy, our job is to make money from it.”

This attitude, that money is everything, that money is king, works well NOW, in this present age. Everybody wants to be rich. Money may be king in this life, but what about in the afterlife?

What everybody needs to hear is what the Bible has to say about the afterlife.

And he  [Jesus Christ] spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?  And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.  And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?  So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.    [Luke 12:16-21]

The parable is simply saying that this mad chase after money will end one day when we die… and after death all your money cannot not save you.

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”  [Hebrews 9:27]

” For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”  [Mark  8:36]

God is trying to tell people who chase after money that they’d better not forget about their soul… that no amount of money will  save your soul.

“But what about the millions of poor people? What has God got to say to them? There are more poor people than rich people. Why doesn’t God care more about the poor?”

He does. And what makes God so GRAND is that in his plan he has made provision for everything and everybody. He’s made it so that those who people who love their money and will do anything to get it and keep it, will not be able to use it to buy their way into heaven.  The most valuable thing in the whole universe— eternal life— is not for sale.

You can’t buy immortality for any price.

But you can have it for free… free for the asking.

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.    [Isaiah 55:1]

He’s not talking here about wine and milk, he’s talking about immortality. About salvation.  About fellowship with God.

You don’t need money to buy the most valuable thing in the universe, and all the money in the world won’t buy you what God is giving away for free.

But how can God give something for free to the poor, yet keep it from the rich? In a nutshell, God offers the free gift of Eternal Life through his son, Jesus Christ. If you will believe the Gospel and receive Christ as your saviour, God will save your soul for FREE. But if your trust is in your money, you’ll not be able to trust Christ.
