No, you don’t go to hell for committing suicide. Suicide is just another sin, like all other sins— and people don’t wind up in hell because of their sin, they wind up in hell because they have not taken God’s remedy for sin, the salvation offered through Jesus Christ. There is only one sin that you can commit for which there is no forgiveness— the sin of rejecting Jesus Christ as your saviour.

Joh 3:16 to 18  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.   He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The tragedy of suicide is that it’s the sin we commit when we are totally hopeless. You don’t get hopeless overnight. Hopelessness comes as a result of repeated discouragements and failures, and each discouragement ought to bring us to see our real need. What is the real need of every person on earth?  Everybody needs Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. If at every downturn in our lives we were reminded of our need of Christ, we would soon repent and be saved… instead, if we never hear the truth about sin and death and salvation, we can actually miss doing the most important thing in life— taking Jesus as Saviour.  The Bible speaks of this in 2Corinthians 7:10:   “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”  What this means is that the sorrow we face in this world is supposed to drive us to God— but when we are not counselled about God and his plans, this sorrow accumulates until it causes us to take our own lives. Suicides are the result of people facing the sorrows of life without hearing about or taking the remedy that God offers to all people. God says to ALL PEOPLE, “ye MUST be born again” (John 3:3)

If you have never been born again— if you’ve never taken Jesus Christ as your saviour from sin— the sorrows of this life can drive you to despair, when in actual fact God intended for the sorrows of this life to drive you to repentance. Don’t try suicide— try Jesus Christ!
